About TrueAwake

by Ashly

TrueAwake is a one-person site about contemplative practice — meditation, breathwork, attention and inner work — written for people who want the benefits without abandoning their critical thinking. Every factual claim is sourced, evidence strength is labelled honestly, and traditional concepts are presented as psychological maps rather than physical anatomy.

Why this site exists

Most writing about inner work fails in one of two directions. It either treats every traditional claim as literally true, or it dismisses the entire territory because some of the claims are unfalsifiable. Both are lazy, and both leave out the interesting part: a great deal of contemplative practice does something measurable, the mechanisms are increasingly well understood, and the honest picture is more useful than either the mystical or the dismissive version.

TrueAwake is an attempt at that honest picture.

What makes this different

Claims are sourced. If a page says slow breathing affects heart rate variability, there is a link to the research. If a practice is traditionally used for something but has not been studied, the page says that instead.

Evidence strength is labelled. “One 34-person pilot study” and “a review of 14 randomised trials” are not the same kind of fact, and this site never uses the language of one to describe the other.

Metaphors are labelled as metaphors. Chakras, energy, cords and auras appear here, because they are the vocabulary of the tradition and they map onto real clusters of felt experience. They are presented as maps, not anatomy.

Failures are included. Practices that did not work, people a practice is wrong for, and the point at which you should stop. This information is routinely missing from the genre and it is often the most important part.

One writer. No content team, no freelancers, no AI-generated filler.

Who writes it

Ashly — a long-term practitioner, not a clinician. No credentials are claimed on this site, in any form, because none are held. I am not a doctor, therapist, psychologist or ordained teacher, and I hold no certifications in meditation, breathwork or any healing modality.

The authority here rests on logged hours, honest sourcing, and being willing to say when something does not hold up. You should not trust this site on authority. You should trust it on checkability — every claim links to something you can go and read yourself.

What this site is not

It is not medical or psychological advice, not a substitute for treatment, and not a lineage or a school. There is nothing to join. If you are in crisis, please contact a professional or a crisis line rather than a website.

A note on the archive

Between 2024 and early 2025 this site published a large volume of low-quality, AI-generated articles. In 2026 the overwhelming majority of them were removed rather than left up to collect traffic. What remains is being rewritten to the standard described in the editorial policy. If you find something that still falls short of it, I would genuinely like to know.
